The Learning Center

The Learning Center (TLC) provides an educational program with courses that begin and end on a semester basis.  It is an extension of James Wood, Millbrook and Sherando high schools. Course content is based on Frederick County Public School's High School Curriculum, and is consistent with current Standards of Learning for those courses.

At TLC, we are committed to helping students maximize their chances for academic success by providing smaller classes, student-centered instruction and a variety of scheduling options. Course content at TLC is designed to help students master the Virginia Standards of Learning.

Students may be recommended for TLC by parents, teachers, students or guidance counselors. Recommendation is made through the home school guidance department. No student is placed at TLC.

Students come to TLC either in the morning or the afternoon.  A shuttle bus is provided daily to bring students to TLC and take them back to their high school. Students may not drive to TLC without special permission.

We believe that consistent attendance is essential to success in the classroom. Students who are absent from class are required to make up time missed.  In order to attend classes in TLC, the student and their parent must participate in the TLC orientation and sign a contract.
